Open Question: Sweepstakes win?

Friday, November 10th, 2006

I got a letter in the mail saying I won $60,000 in a sweepstakes. I may have entered in 1 over the internet but I don’t really know for sure. It also contained a check for $2900 to pay a tax with. The check looks very real so I was just gonna go to a bank to see if they could confirm it. I’m trying to keep my hopes down but there is a part of me that wants to believe that this is legit . Is there any site where i can check out the validity of this or does anyone else have any advice?
The sweepstakes letter came from Canada (Edmonton). The check has a United States location on it though.

The Big Ten Conference has become a two-team race and we are now just one week away from the dream match-up between Michigan and Ohio State. These two teams were looking ahead last weekend and both survived single-digit victories over bad teams. After these two programs, there is a clear-cut No. 3 team that plays just 25 minutes away from our main office in Wisconsin.

Promises are made to be broken.

That appears to be the stance of 2006 World Series of Poker champion Jamie Gold, who is being sued for half his $12 million winnings.

While he admits to having a verbal agreement with Bruce Crispin Leyser to share his winnings, Gold seems to be backpedaling on certain aspects of it, although Leyser has a voice-mail tape of the promise.

Ness Notes (Heisman Update / College Hoops Begin)

Friday, November 10th, 2006

As I’ve been saying for weeks now, this year’s Heisman winner will be won by one of two QBs, Ohio State’s Troy Smith or Notre Dame’s Brady Quinn. Quinn has the much better numbers lately but it shouldn’t go unnoticed that the Irish haven’t exactly faced “Murderers Row.” Since Notre Dame was beaten badly by Michigan back on September 16 (47-21), Quinn has rebounded (he threw three INTs vs the Wolverines and lost a fumble that was returned for a TD) by leading Notre Dame to six straight wins, as the Irish have averaged 34.8 PPG.
